Sadete Fiku and her son, Gazmir Fiku, both accused of killing 61-year-old Urim Fiku, appeared before the court for the assessment of a security measure, following the serious incident that occurred in the village of Godvi in Bulqiza. At the conclusion of the hearing, the court ordered the security measure of “detention in prison” for both.
During their statements, the mother and son denied involvement in the crime, insisting on the version that the 61-year-old was attacked by a bear in the forest. According to their claims, Urim Fiku returned home injured and bloodied, and then took a firearm and shot himself in the chest.
They also stated that after the incident, it was Sadete Fiku, the victim’s wife, who notified the ambulance. On the other hand, Gazmir Fiku claimed that at the time of the incident he was not at home, as he was at work near the OSCE office in Bulqiza.
Another element mentioned in their testimonies relates to the fact that Urim Fiku, according to family members, used to set traps in the forest to catch wild animals, mainly wild boars. The forensic expert findings and the scientific police reports are expected to help determine the dynamics of the incident and verify the versions given by both defendants.
