The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, stated that the war with Iran was the reason for the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections, arguing that voters who backed President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election this time moved to the Democratic side, rather than simply not taking part in the voting.
Vance referred to internal Republican polls and said: “We lost because of the war.” He said voters demanded an end to the war with Iran, a reduction in inflation, and the implementation of a political agenda that puts America’s interests first (“America First”). Vance also argued that there were demands for a change in the United States’ relations with Israel.
He also described the election result as a reflection of dissatisfaction within the Republican voter base. However, his explanation for the defeat relied on the internal polls he presented.
