Prime Minister Edi Rama has paid an official visit to Brussels, where his agenda focused on two of the most important issues for Albania: integration into the European Union and commitments within NATO.
During his stay in the Belgian capital, Rama took part in the Euronews Enlargement Summit, a high-level meeting where leaders and representatives of institutions discussed the future of EU enlargement and the prospects of countries seeking membership. The discussions focused on the reforms candidate countries must complete, their progress towards integration, and the impact that enlargement may have on European security, democracy and the economy.
The head of the Albanian government also gave an interview to Euronews, in which he spoke about Albania’s path towards EU membership. In parallel with political commitments, negotiations and technical meetings continue for the closing of the next negotiating clusters.
Another important moment of the visit was the meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Alliance’s headquarters in Brussels. During the conversation, Rutte praised the progress of the defence sector in Albania and the country’s seriousness in fulfilling its obligations as a NATO member.
Rama’s visit to Brussels comes at a time when European integration and the strengthening of defence capabilities remain two of Albania’s main priorities on the international stage.
