President Bajram Begaj has set 9 May as the date for the 2027 local elections, and Taulant Balla, head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, has highlighted the symbolism of the date, which coincides with Europe Day. According to Balla, this date represents the values of freedom, democracy, peace and European cooperation, and he links the electoral process to Albania’s strategic goal of joining the European Union. He writes that the Socialist Party, under the leadership of Prime Minister Edi Rama, aims to complete Albania’s European integration process. In this context, Balla has announced that the Socialist Party will enter the 9 May 2027 local elections with the goal of winning all 46 municipalities in the country.

LOCAL ELECTIONS ON 9 MAY 2027 – ALBANIANS VOTE ON EUROPE DAY!
The local elections will take place on 9 May 2027, on a date with special historical and European symbolism. 9 May marks Europe Day, but it also commemorates the victory over fascism and the values of freedom, democracy, peace and European cooperation. A day that unites history with the future and citizens with their democratic choice.
Albania in a United Europe, with democracy, dignity and faith in the future! Membership of the European Union is a national strategic objective that requires sustained commitment, institutional responsibility and close cooperation with our European friends. Therefore, 2027 is decisive for closing the negotiations, and the two years that follow are equally important for the process of ratifying the accession treaty by the member states.
Albania cannot lose this historic momentum. Only Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Socialist Party will complete this historic process: Albania’s accession to the European Union. On 9 May 2030, the red and black flag will proudly fly in the courtyards of the Parliament, the Commission and the European Council, in Brussels and Strasbourg. Therefore, in service of this commitment and in service of the citizens, we are running in the Local Elections with the goal of winning all 46 municipalities of the country on 9 May 2027.
