Elbasan Mayor Gledian Llatja provided details after midnight on the situation in the building affected by the fire, where a section of the structure suffered severe structural damage.
Llatja said all families have been evacuated. Some residents have taken shelter with relatives, while the rest have been accommodated in student dormitories in Elbasan.
Meanwhile, specialists from the Institute of Construction are expected to intervene to assess the damage and verify the building’s safety.
“The fire has been extinguished. Currently, all families have been evacuated and there is no family left in the building. Most residents have taken shelter with relatives, while the rest are in student dormitories in Elbasan.
The structures of the Institute of Construction are expected to arrive on site to verify the condition of the entire building. According to preliminary assessments by engineers, one of the sectors has become uninhabitable, but structural problems have also been found in the rest of the building,” Llatja said.
