Visar Mehmeti does not rule out the possibility that Albanians could become part of the new government. “The winning party will invite the minorities in this case. Without doubt we will be invited to sit down and discuss the government issue. We have an agreement that we will sit down and discuss as Albanians, presenting our platform”, said Mehmeti, who is one of two Albanian deputies who secured seats in the early elections in Serbia.
He stated that the result of two seats is positive, although the goal was to secure three seats in parliament. “It is certainly a good result, but perhaps a very good one, though we aimed for three seats. Last night we were very close to the third seat, but the fact that turnout was massive in the elections prevented us from securing the third seat in parliament”, he told ”Report TV”.
As for the Student List, Mehmeti said it remains to be seen what its stance toward Albanians will be. “The Student List has many enigmas, because it is not known what is in that large coalition. There are students, liberals, conservatives, radicals, so we are optimistic in this regard, but first we must sit down and see the direct approach toward us”, he said.
Regarding Kosovo, the Albanian deputy does not expect any change in Belgrade’s position. “As far as Kosovo is concerned, the approach will be the same. Every political party in Serbia is created that way, and nothing different can be expected. There may perhaps be small symbolic changes, but on the issue of recognition there will be no difference”, Mehmeti stated.
