Manchester City may face another investigation into its finances. Several Premier League clubs are calling for the launch of a new investigation process, this time focusing on the period after 2018.
According to reporting by the British newspaper “The Independent”, executives at several rival clubs have raised doubts about Manchester City’s sponsorship deals, which were at the centre of the previous investigation. They want to verify whether these deals have actually changed after 2018.
However, there is no common position within the Premier League on this issue. Some clubs are willing to support a new investigation, while others are hesitant to become involved in another long legal battle, which could further damage the image and reputation of the English league.
Another obstacle relates to evidence. Some executives are concerned that the documentation necessary to support new allegations may not be secured. Meanwhile, some clubs see the possibility of a further investigation as a means of pressure in the current conflict.
For its part, Manchester City has consistently denied the allegations of financial violations and insists that it has not carried out any illegal action. If a new investigation is launched, it would be separate from the procedures currently under way. Any possible measure or sanction against the club would depend on the results of the relevant legal process.
