Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to end his career with the Portugal national team has caused many emotions in the Portuguese nation. Following the announcement by the 40-year-old star, the Portuguese Football Federation also reacted, publishing a statement full of praise and gratitude for the historic captain.
In its statement, the Federation describes Ronaldo as a charismatic leader, an example of dedication and the most important symbol of the Portuguese national team.
“The Portuguese Football Federation expresses its deepest and everlasting gratitude to our legendary captain, Cristiano Ronaldo. Throughout an extraordinary international career, with 234 appearances and 146 goals, he has carried an entire nation on his shoulders, broken records and led the team to moments that will forever remain in the history of our football,” the statement reads.
But the Federation does not want CR7’s departure to pass without a special ceremony. For this reason, it has announced that it intends to organize a farewell match, where fans and the whole country will have the opportunity to once again salute their legend.
“We refuse for this farewell to happen without the honor it deserves. It is our great desire to organize and collaborate on a dignified tribute to the extraordinary career of Cristiano Ronaldo,” the Federation stresses.
In the end, the message to the captain was clear: “Thank you for everything, captain! This will always be your home! Now we aim for the target of 1,000 goals!”.
