The Spanish football world is in mourning after the tragic death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who died following a serious collision on the pitch with Andorra goalkeeper Oëono.
The incident has shocked the sporting public in Spain, while the possibility of suspending all weekend matches, both in the top flight of Spanish football and in the second division, has now been put on the table of La Liga officials.
According to reports from Iberian media, particularly Radio SER, La Liga president Javier Tebas is seriously considering postponing the championship. Preliminary meetings have been held on this issue, and a final decision is expected to be taken in the coming hours and officially communicated to the clubs.
So far, the postponement of the Granada-Tenerife match, scheduled for Saturday at 21:00, has been confirmed without a new date. It remains to be seen whether the decision will extend to the entire 13th round of the second division championship.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Football Federation earlier decided to postpone the King’s Cup and Queen’s Cup matches, while the official presentation of Spain U21’s friendly against Japan has also been cancelled.
President Javier Tebas has publicly expressed his sorrow over the death of the footballer.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda. We all share the great pain of this irreparable loss. My sincerest condolences to the family, loved ones, teammates and the entire club. I send my support and embrace during these difficult moments. Rest in peace”, Tebas wrote.
