Jesús de Miguel will forever remain a notable name in Tenerife’s recent history. The Spanish striker, who died at the age of 30 after a serious collision with Andorra’s goalkeeper, Owono, was one of the main figures in the club’s return to the Segunda División. He arrived without much fanfare, but very quickly became one of the fans’ idols at the “Heliodoro” stadium.
Born in Madrid on 27 September 1996, De Miguel built a long career through the lower categories of Spanish football. His path was far from easy, as he had to move through several clubs and fight to earn a place in professional football.
He came through the academy of Leganés before playing for several teams, including Internacional de Madrid, Fuenlabrada, Unión Adarve and Navalcarnero.
The Spanish striker stood out for his physical strength, his left foot and his ability to play as a centre-forward. One of the first important moments of his career came in 2018, when with Internacional de Madrid he secured promotion to Segunda División B, after a play-off match against Tenerife B at the “Heliodoro” stadium. Years later, the same stadium would become his home.
The move to Castellón, the moment that changed his career
After various experiences, De Miguel continued his development with Fuenlabrada, the club with which he was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Segunda División in the 2018-2019 season.
He later moved to Navalcarnero and in 2021 joined Unionistas de Salamanca. It was there that he began to show even more of his potential as a goalscorer, netting 12 goals in the Primera Federación.
In January 2023 came another important step, with his transfer to Castellón. This was the moment that would ultimately change his career.
With this club’s shirt he found consistency and won an important role in the attacking line. The 2023-2024 season was his breakthrough, as he scored 16 goals in the Primera Federación and played a decisive role in Castellón’s promotion to the Segunda División.
In three seasons with the club, he scored 25 goals, finally reaching the goal he had fought for throughout his career: professional football.
Tenerife, the most beautiful and final chapter of his career
His experience in the Canary Islands represented the peak of Jesús de Miguel’s career. Tenerife entrusted him with the responsibility of the attacking line, and the striker responded with goals and decisive performances.
The club’s return to the Segunda División became a symbol of a shared journey: on one hand, a team that sought to return among the leading sides of Spanish football and, on the other, a footballer who had waited for years for his great opportunity.
For Tenerife’s fans, De Miguel will remain one of the figures of the season of the return to the second category, a player who helped the team restore the enthusiasm and pride of its supporters.
Tragically, an unfortunate event cut short the dreams of the Spanish striker far too early. At the age of 30, when he still had much to give to football, Jesús de Miguel passed away, leaving behind a story of sacrifice, perseverance and love for the game.
