Barcelona has received bad news after its 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the Champions League. Midfielder Rodri has suffered a muscle injury and is expected to be out of action for at least four weeks.
According to the Diario Sport newspaper, the 30-year-old player felt discomfort in the biceps femoris muscle of his right thigh during the European match.
Medical examinations carried out by Barcelona’s staff have confirmed a muscle injury, which will force the midfielder to stop training and playing for about a month.
Rodri’s absence is a problem for the Catalan side, as he will miss several important matches. The first is Sunday’s league game against Atletico Madrid, and he is then expected to be absent against Villarreal and Sabah in the Champions League.
The midfielder will also not be available for the match against Deportivo La Coruña, after the international break ends.
The injury will also affect Spain’s plans, as Rodri is expected to miss its upcoming Nations League matches as well. Barcelona must now find solutions to cope with a congested schedule without one of its key midfielders.
