The growing use of the internet and digital tools is raising new concerns for Albanian citizens, especially regarding children’s safety, the protection of personal data, and the risks associated with online activity.
According to the “Balkan Barometer 2025” report, published by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), children’s safety and well-being online is the main concern for Albanians. Around 50% of respondents rank this issue first, compared with 43%, the average for the Western Balkans.
In second place are cybercrimes, including the theft of personal data or bank card information. 39% of Albanians express concern about this problem, almost at the same level as the regional average of 40%.
Security of online payments worries 21% of Albanian citizens, while at the regional level this percentage reaches 26%. Meanwhile, 13% of respondents in Albania express concern about the lack of the digital skills needed to use technology.
Concern about the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market is lower. Only 6% of Albanians fear that the use of AI could lead to job losses, compared with 8% in the Western Balkans.
The report also highlights that a considerable share of Albanians see no reason to be concerned about the growth of internet and technology use. Around 30% of respondents in Albania give this answer, compared with a regional average of 22%.
This makes Albania the Western Balkan country with the highest percentage of citizens who say they are not worried about developments in the internet and digital tools.
