Ambassador Vlahutin: I want to express our condolences to the French people

"I want to express our condolences to the French people and the French Republic for the terrible tragedy that happened last evening," EU Ambassador Romana Vlahutin said today addressing the awards ceremony at the Book Fair Tirana 2015.

Ambassador Vlahutin underlined that the EU will continue to invest first and foremost in knowledge in Albania. "Books are a fundamental part of what makes us a civilization. By celebrating books and reading, we celebrate our freedom as well," she said.

"Not very far from now, Albania will enrich the Union by bringing your identity, culture, experience and talent to the Union," Ambassador Vlahutin said while she awarded the prize on the best translation which went to Mira Meksi for her translation of Milan Kundera's novel – Identity.

Organised by the Albanian Association of Publishers, the 18th edition of the Tirana Book Fair brings together publishers, writers, scholars and translators as well as Tirana's public. Albania is already benefitting from the EU's Creative Europe programme which has awarded close EUR 250,000 to Albanian publishing houses for literary translations.
