Asylum Seekers, German Interior Minister: 40% are from the Balkans
The German Minister of Interior affairs has announced that according to their data, 40% of the asylum seekers in Germany are coming from the Western Balkan countries, including Albania and Kosovo.
The German Interior Minister called this an unaccepted shame for Europe.
In a recent interview for a German daily newspaper, the minister said that he completely understands the anger of the German people, when they see that the highest number of asylum seekers come from Kosovo and Albania, apart from those that come from Iraq and Syria because of the conflict there. However, he did say that the most important thing was that the number of asylum seekers had significantly decreased. To further dissuade asylum seekers, he announced that Germany will be significantly decreasing the financial support that is given to asylum seekers from the Balkan countries. He also announced that Germany is preparing a legal draft that will increase the number of origin countries that are considered to be “safe countries.”
