CAS sets target for Serbia, Albania Euro 2016 case verdicts

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND — A court ruling for appeals filed by the Serbian and Albanian football federation against UEFA sanctions after their European Championship qualifier was abandoned is expected by July 10.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport set the target date on Friday.

Rulings were originally expected before Saturday when Serbia resumes its Euro 2016 qualifying program at Denmark.

A chaotic Serbia vs. Albania match last October was stopped when a drone with a political banner flew into the stadium.

Players clashed and the Albania team refused to play on after being attacked by Serbian fans.

UEFA ordered Albania to forfeit the match. Serbia was given a 3-0 default win but was then deducted all three points and ordered to host two qualifiers in an empty stadium.
