Orikumi Park Is Now Part of Albania’s Tourism Guide
The archeological park of Orikum, southwestern Albania, is now part of the national tourism guide. The park was left out of the guide until one year ago due to the situation of the site. It was covered by shrubs and there were neither signposts nor docents.
Following a rehabilitation project that was undertaken by the Ministry of Culture, now the park that is located within the area of Pasha Liman navy base has turned into an eye-catching destination for tourists.
The area has been cleaned and the premises are now functional, signposts in Albanian and English were put in the area. The park was visited by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro during the weekend.
Kumbaro said that the number of tourists and visitors in the Park of Orikum has tripled after the rehabilitation of the area.
“About one and a half years ago the area was covered completely abandoned and covered in shrubs and vegetation and no tourists at all. Now, foreign tourists as well as citizens from Vlora, are visiting the park and their number is expected to increase during the summer season,” Minister Kumbaro said.
Orikum is now part of the administrative map of Vlora and thus it is included in the tourism guide of the Municipality.
