Tahiri: Police returned serving for the community. Number of crimes has dropped
The Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, made an annual report of the police forces in 2014, saying that the police is now perceived as a troop which serves to the citizens.
“2014 is the year when the police returned on its duty, fighting informality, illegality and criminality by cooperating with the public. 2015 will be the year in which the police will be modernized and will serve to the Albanian citizens”, Tahiri declared.
Although murder crimes have dropped compared to one year ago, Minister Tahiri said that it is mainly domestic and that is why he asked the Albanian society to cooperate.
“Murder rates in 2014 are 10.4% lower than in 2013. The police cannot be alone in the fight against crime. It is a social, institutional and judicial chain that can prevent serious crimes only if it functions effectively”, Tahiri declared.
Minister Tahiri presented the police officer of 2015, or the “communitary police officer”, as he called the new figure.
“We will start a program for preparing the communitary police officer. This will be a stand-alone structure focused on the citizen, on resolving conflicts, preventing them and building solid partnership bridges between the police, the citizen and communities”, Tahiri declared.
