Finance Minister Petrit Malaj presented the new pension plan for Albania to the parliamentary Committee on Laws, announcing two changes that will take effect in January and April 2027.
Indexation to take effect in April 2027
According to Malaj, pension indexation will be moved to April 2027, from July as it is currently, with an additional fund projected at around 1.35 billion lek. According to him, this policy will cost the state budget a total of 4 billion lek.
Monthly bonus doubled
The second change provides for doubling the value of the monthly bonus for pensioners according to defined categories, starting January 1, 2027, with a total projected cost of 20 billion lek per year.
Total cost for 2027
Malaj said these two policies for pensioners have a total cost to the state budget for 2027 of around 24 billion lek, or 250 million euro. According to him, the plan aims to increase pensioners’ incomes and, above all, to gradually improve their standard of living.
“For us, this support is not merely a line item in the budget, but a commitment to better respond to the needs of a category that deserves more attention and economic security”, Malaj said.
