Billionaire Elon Musk responded with irony after Republicans suffered losses in the U.S. midterm elections, posting a sarcastic comment on the social network X.
Musk, who spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting conservative candidates’ election campaigns, mocked the result, also referring to the defeat of Republican candidate Ken Paxton in the Senate race in Texas.
“I have the impression that my space laser interference in the elections didn’t work this time,” wrote the executive director of SpaceX.
His comment comes after Democrat James Talarico won in Texas, managing to defeat Republican candidate Ken Paxton, a close ally of President Donald Trump.
The result marks the end of a period of more than three decades of Republican dominance in U.S. Senate races in this state.
Musk had been one of the largest financial backers of conservative campaigns, while his involvement in the elections had drawn attention due to the considerable sums invested in support of Republican candidates.
