Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu says Arlind Qori, leader of Lëvizja Bashkë (Lëvizja Bashkë), is gaining increasing weight on the Albanian opposition scene, describing him as the main rival of the Democratic Party for representing the opposition. Spahiu credited Qori with keeping the protest free from the influence of Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha.
“Arlind Qori should be placed on a pedestal, to make a historic monument of him. He has entered the political history that drove Berisha out of the boulevard for 6 months”, Spahiu said. He went further, predicting that in the race for Tirana, the candidate of Lëvizja Bashkë could receive more votes than the Democratic Party. “I am convinced that he will get more votes than the DP. Today he is the main risk to the opposition camp taking the opposition’s banner”, the lawyer said on ”Report TV”.
Spahiu also addressed the future of the protests that have been taking place in the capital for months. He advised protesters, especially students, not to remain dependent on existing parties, but to build a new political alternative in order to have representation in elections.
”Students need to understand one thing: either the parties among them are a strong obstacle, or they choose for one of them to lead the protest. So either they accept cooperation, or they realize that these parties are an obstacle to the next step. Students should create their own political party if they want to move toward a successful model. A new movement must be created, otherwise they will be victims of the obstacles that the old political parties put under the wheels”.
