Real Madrid came from behind to win 2-3 away to AEK in a dramatic match full of emotion, goals and twists.
The Greek side surprised the Madrid club in the 12th minute. After a quick counterattack and an assist from Luka Jovic, Aboubakary Koita broke into the opposition area and, with a precise shot, beat the goalkeeper to give AEK the lead.
Real Madrid responded and in the 28th minute Jude Bellingham found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. However, the Englishman did not give up and just four minutes later restored parity with a spectacular finish, assisted by Marc Cucurella. The first half ended 1-1.
The second half brought more drama. In the 75th minute, it was Albanian Stavro Pilo who shocked the Madrid side, scoring AEK’s second goal. The defender benefited from a quick counterattack and an assist from Koita, beating Courtois with a precise left-foot shot.
For Pilo, this was his second goal in the Champions League, after also scoring in the match against Manchester City, which ended in a 5-1 defeat for the Greek side. But the home side’s lead lasted only three minutes. In the 78th minute, Kylian Mbappe restored parity for Real Madrid, levelling the score at 2-2.
When everything seemed to be heading for a draw, Federico Valverde came on in stoppage time. The Uruguayan midfielder scored an outstanding goal from distance, sealing a 2-3 win for the Spanish giants.
