Albanian opposition vows to continue protests until speaker resigns
The Albanian opposition Democratic Party(DP) on Friday vowed to continue holding protests every Thursday in front of the parliament until Speaker Ilir Meta steps down.
Meanwhile, the Youth Forum of the Democratic Party said they will hold daily protests in various cities across the country.
"Our request remains the resignation of Ilir Meta. Only this can create the conditions for a fair investigation from the Prosecution. We will continue with protests until Meta resigns," DP leader Lulzim Basha declared.
Thousands of supporters of the opposition protested in front of the parliament building and the prime minister's office on Thursday, demanding Meta's resignation.
The opposition accused Meta of trying to murder two lawmakers, but Meta has denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
The top legislator, who has talked to prosecutors over the alleged plot, has not been charged with any crime.
