ALBtelecom has started offering underground fiber-optic infrastructure to other telcos

ALBtelecom, as the only telecommunications operator in the country, which has made tens of million euros investments to build and rehabilitate its underground infrastructure in all major cities of the country (about 75 urban areas), has begun offering it for the use of other operators of electronic communications. This decision of ALBtelecom will be implemented in support of the Albanian government initiative to clean the cities from air cables, which are installed by various operators out of technical standards and requirements adopted by AKEP. This initiative has been implemented by AKEP, OSHEE (Energy Distribution Entity) and the municipalities of the country, but ALBtelecom considers that its contribution in this area will be very important, not only regarding the visual part of these cables, but also improve the quality of services to the citizens and especially to avoid incidents which in some cases can endanger the lives of citizens.

Actually, Albtelecom has signed, or is in the process of signing contracts with several operators to use its underground infrastructure pipes, by creating opportunities for other operators to lift air cables which are in contrary to the adopted requirements and standards.

The capital city is the main area in which ALBtelecom is making a giant work because of the size of the telecommunications network infrastructure, the large number of operators, and problems with aerial cables that still exist in Tirana.

Now all fixed telephony and Internet operators have the opportunity to use the modern network of ALBtelecom, with very favorable rates. ALBtelecom’s network has all the necessary telecommunications standards and it is in full compliance of regulations adopted by AKEP.

After the rehabilitation of areas in Tirana, this philosophy and action of ALBtelecom will continue in different cities of Albania. The second City where the company aims to offer the use of its own network, is Durres, then it will be the other major cities in the country.

Meanwhile, ALBtelecom has supported with intensive work another initiative of the municipality of Tirana: repairing manholes on the main roads, which are damaged because of their reconstruction, as well as high tonnage vehicles. The company monitors and refurbishes in real time its manhole covers infrastructure, giving special attention to the life safety of the citizens, and the normal and smooth traffic flow. Part of this rebuilding are also other common wells that are installed in the sidewalks of the capital. They are levelled with the asphalt or sidewalks, as well as the missing covers due to theft are replaced, so that the passage of vehicles or pedestrians will be safe.
