Excerpt from the full statement of the State Police:
For six days, the State Police has been facing continuous attacks, lasting for long hours, from groups of masked individuals who have assaulted State Police officers with stones, paving stones, metal spheres, screws, hard objects, pyrotechnic materials and Molotov cocktails.
In addition to the attacks on the Police, these groups have attacked and damaged state institutions, justice institutions, banking institutions, and public and private property.
At the same time, calls continue every day, through open groups, online platforms and social networks, for the killing of Police officers and the burning of Police vehicles.
Yesterday, a phone call was received in the operations room of the Tirana Local Police Directorate, according to which there were armed elements among the protesters and gunfire was being shot at the time of the attacks with pyrotechnic materials against the Police.
In the face of this violence and calls for murder, and given that yesterday too the attacks on the Police were unprecedented, the State Police took additional measures.
To protect the lives of Police officers in the field, who are unarmed, in implementation of the law on assemblies, the special RENEA structures have also been deployed in the field, since, based on the phone call received in the operations room, there was a risk to the lives of Police officers.
