A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Vlora after he allegedly attempted to use a firearm during a dispute with a 41-year-old man.
The incident took place last evening, at around 8:50 p.m., in the “Uji i Ftohtë” neighborhood, in the area known as “Rrapi”. While on patrol, officers observed a dispute over trivial motives between Mario Meçanaj, 34, a resident of Vlora, and E. H., 41, a resident of Tirana.
Police intervened immediately to prevent the situation from escalating. When he saw the officers, the 34-year-old attempted to run away, but he was caught and neutralized.
According to preliminary investigations, Meçanaj allegedly tried to use a pistol during the dispute. He then allegedly threw the weapon into the sand near the place where he was caught by police. The pistol was found and seized as material evidence.
During a search of the 34-year-old’s vehicle, police also found and seized a metal knuckle duster.
The coded operation “Yacht” ended with the arrest of the 34-year-old, while the procedural materials were referred to the Vlora Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
