A surprise inspection at a hospital in the city of Barreiros, Brazil, has caused a scandal after Mayor Carlinhos da Pedreira found two doctors in a rest room during the night shift while patients were waiting in the emergency room.
The incident took place on the evening of November 4, when the mayor inspected the hospital following complaints from citizens about delays in medical care.
Outraged, he accused the doctors of having intimate relations during working hours, saying: “The emergency room is full, and you are having sex.” Footage of the confrontation was published on social media.
Following the incident, the municipality announced the termination of its contract with the organization that managed the hospital.
The Doctors’ Union claims that the two professionals were on a break after 12 hours of intensive work and that service to patients had not been interrupted.
The Regional Medical Council also condemned the public exposure of the doctors, calling for any possible violation to be investigated through institutional procedures.
