Activists Dritan Goxhaj and Edison Likaj were escorted to the Police Commissariat this afternoon after they objected to the fines provided for under the new regulatory act on the organization of assemblies. After being released from the Commissariat, Goxhaj described the police action as illegal. According to him, the protest near the Council of Ministers had been announced in advance and was being held within the designated time and at the location specified in the relevant notice.
“It is an administrative offense, and the police arrest people for administrative offenses. It is illegal”, the activist said, objecting to the administrative measures imposed on them.
Goxhaj claims that officers asked for his documentation while they were on the boulevard, even though, according to him, the gathering had been notified and was taking place in accordance with the established conditions.
“They served us the fine, we neither signed nor agreed to take it. They didn’t justify anything”, he stated.
The activist used harsh language toward the State Police and Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing the officers of acting in the service of the government.
“It is a completely mercenary police force in the service of a bandit named Ed Rama. We are in conditions of open governmental banditry”, Goxhaj said.
