The municipality of Baar, in the canton of Zug in Switzerland, has decided to give 100 francs to each of its residents. This measure aims to return to citizens a portion of the financial surplus achieved during the past year. According to the decision, a total of 25,540 residents will be beneficiaries.
The total amount to be distributed reaches 2 million and 554 thousand francs. Payments are expected to be made at the beginning of December 2026. Residents will not receive the money in cash.
They will receive vouchers via QR codes. These vouchers can be used at local businesses and shops. Through this initiative, local authorities aim to return part of the municipality’s excess revenue to residents.
At the same time, they aim to support the local economy through the spending of the vouchers at businesses in the area. The decision comes after the municipality’s positive financial result for 2025. That year, Baar recorded a surplus of 55.5 million francs.
However, the benefit does not apply to all people living in Switzerland. The right to receive the 100 francs belongs to residents who were registered in the municipality of Baar on 10 June 2026, at 17:00. This date and time determine the list of beneficiaries.
Those who registered later or who live in other municipalities are excluded. Thus, the measure does not apply to all residents of Switzerland. It applies only to those who meet the registration requirement in Baar.
The municipality of Baar is in the canton of Zug. It made this decision after closing the accounts for 2025, when the surplus reached 55.5 million francs. The distribution of QR-code vouchers aims to boost circulation in local businesses.
Their value can be spent only in the shops and businesses of the area. The initiative is expected to have an effect on the municipality’s small economy as well, bringing additional customers to local merchants. Local authorities have not provided other details about the distribution procedure.
They have announced that payments will begin at the beginning of December 2026. For residents registered by 10 June 2026, at 17:00, this means a value of 100 francs each. This amount will be available through QR-code vouchers.
This is a special case in Switzerland. A municipality decides to return part of its surplus to citizens in the form of vouchers to be spent at local businesses.
