The Christmas atmosphere has begun in New York, as the traditional tree that decorates Rockefeller Center every year has arrived in the heart of Manhattan.
The giant Norway spruce, about 75 years old, stands roughly 23 meters tall and 15 meters wide and weighs around 11 tons. It was transported from West Edmeston, in New York State.
In the coming weeks, the tree will be decorated with thousands of lights, becoming one of the most popular attractions of the year-end holidays. Every year, millions of visitors go to Rockefeller Center to see the iconic tree up close.
The tradition of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center began in 1931, when workers building the complex placed a small decorated tree. Two years later, in 1933, the first official tree-lighting ceremony was held.
Since then, the tree has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas in New York and around the world.
