Prime Minister Edi Rama keeps repeating the question: “Dialogue, but with whom?” Through a video published on Facebook, Rama has followed the latest developments from the square, where teachers and intellectuals joined the student protest. The video begins with chairs being placed in front of the Prime Minister’s Office building this morning, as an invitation to dialogue.
Rama says he is ready to sit down for talks together with the government, stressing that the door to dialogue remains open. “Now, whoever wants dialogue, I am available together with the government”, the prime minister declares.
The video shows the chants of protesters, who demand the prime minister’s resignation and use slogans against the government. Rama refers to these chants, saying that up to that point, the demands heard from the square were “resignation”, “down with the dictatorship”, “down with communism” and a refusal of dialogue.
At the end of the video, the moment the chairs placed in front of the Prime Minister’s Office were broken is shown, footage that Rama presents as a sign of rejection of his invitation to dialogue.
Through this reaction, the prime minister brings back into focus his position that he is ready for talks, while the protest continues to be accompanied by calls against the government.
