Sali Berisha has issued a call to citizens to support the students and young people who have been protesting against the government for days. In a video message, the leader of the opposition invited citizens, regardless of their political beliefs, to join the protest and stand alongside the young people.
The Democratic Party leader accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of using police violence to suppress the protests, claiming that more than 2,000 young people, high school students, university students and minors have been beaten, detained or arrested in recent days. Referring to the situation, the Democratic leader used the term “red terror,” and stressed that the support of teachers and professors for the students has, in his view, weakened the government’s efforts to intimidate protesters.
In his message, Berisha appealed to citizens to overcome their fear and join the young people, who, in his words, are protesting beyond their personal interests. “Students, high school students, young people have risen like the phoenix from the ashes. They are doing their duty. Now it is your turn.”, Berisha said.
The Democratic Party leader presented the young people’s protest as an issue linked to the future of the country, calling for citizens to mobilize in support of their demands. At the end of the video message, Berisha announced the call to join the students the next day, at 10:00, in front of the university. “Everyone with the young people, everyone there with them tomorrow at 10:00 in front of the university, until victory”, he declared.
