19:40. Young people were detained by police on Kavaja Street in Tirana, following the protest held in the capital, accompanied by clashes between protesters and blue-uniformed officers. The operation to detain protesters continues on “Myslym Shyri” Street and other main roads in Tirana.
19:20. The clash between protesters and law enforcement has taken a new turn, as a group of young people moved from the city center toward the main entry and exit routes of Tirana. The youths are continuing their march along the Ring Road toward the Zogu i Zi Junction, closely pursued by State Police officers and FNSH units. To slow the advance of police armored vehicles and vans, protesters have begun placing improvised barriers and barricades along the road using whatever materials are at hand.
18:50. Protesters have gathered again in “Skanderbeg” Square, after moving through several areas of the capital and being pursued by police forces. The crowd moved from the Small Ring Road toward “Avni Rustemi” Square, where protesters were followed by the blue uniforms. Protesters are throwing firecrackers, while police are responding with tear gas, at another moment of tension during the protest. Protesters are also tearing up the slabs in the center of the square to attack State Police vehicles and ministries. The entire “Skanderbeg” Square has been covered with a “cloud” of tear gas fired by the blue uniforms.
18:00. After hours of calm and dancing in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, unrest has resumed. A woman crossed the security perimeter at the Prime Minister’s Office, moving in front of the water cannon truck, and then several young people threw stones. Water and tear gas were immediately deployed by police.
After the crowd was dispersed in front of the central institutions, State Police forces continued their movements on the ground to disperse groups of protesters moving through different parts of the capital.
Police officers pursued groups of young people in some of the most populated areas of Tirana, including the New Bazaar area, streets around the center and near 9-Katësh.
In these areas, checks are being carried out on persons suspected of participating in the protest, while the situation on secondary roads remains tense with an increased presence of police patrols.
16:30. A special moment was recorded during the eighth day of the youth protest. In front of the Prime Minister’s office, as also seen in footage from Koha Jonë journalist Daniel Muçaku, some protesters began dancing a traditional dance to the beat of a drum, in a scene that contrasts sharply with the tensions and clashes of previous days. The images of young people dancing in front of police officers bring a different atmosphere to the protest that has kept the capital tense for days.
15:41. After the clashes on ”Rruga e Durrësit”, the protesters have now moved to the Prime Minister’s office. Police forces used large amounts of tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters near the Ministry of Education and pursue them through the city’s side streets. In a tactical move, the protesters quickly regrouped in the heart of Tirana.
15:27. Protesters and State Police forces clashed on ”Rruga e Durrësit”, a few meters from the Ministry of Education on Tuesday afternoon, for the second time this day. Unlike other days, the protest has been mainly peaceful, but two episodes of tension have been recorded so far. Young people threw firecrackers toward the police, while the police responded with water and tear gas to disperse the crowd. An attempt to detain a young man was obstructed by other protesters, who did not allow Shqiponja Forces officers to take him.
14:30 The protest situation in front of the Ministry of Education became tense, where many students and teachers had gathered. The student protest, which today was also supported by teachers, began peacefully in the early afternoon in front of the Polytechnic University and then in front of the Prime Minister’s office. But after the move to the Ministry of Education, tensions began when masked youths started throwing stones toward the ministry building.
The police reacted immediately, spraying water under pressure toward the protesters. Although several iron barriers had been placed on the first floor, damage from the stones is visible.
Some of them have entered the institution’s courtyard, while the protest continues. Meanwhile, on Durrësi Street, some businesses had not opened, while others had decided to raise their shutters today. But after the clashes began, they immediately started closing their businesses.
